What is it?
Emailchemy Memory Boost is a tool for giving Emailchemy more working memory. Emailchemy is distributed with a limit on how much of your computer's memory it can use, and this limit is high enough for most usage without getting in the way of the other things your computer needs memory for. However, if you have very large email files of certain types, Emailchemy will need more memory than we distribute it with.
Do I need to use it?For most people, the answer is no. But, if you have email files larger than 5 Gigabytes or you have a lot of really big attachments (each 20 MB or larger), you may want to give Emailchemy some more memory to help it run faster.
How will I know if I need to use it?If Emailchemy is running very slow, say only a few messages a second, you should use this tool to boost Emailchemy's memory setting up a notch.
How do I use it?It's easy -- run it, change the setting, click "Save", then quit. But, here are some things to keep in mind:
- Do not use the Emailchemy Memory Boost while Emailchemy is running. It won't break anything if you do, but Emailchemy will not get the new settings until you restart it.
- Try the 2x memory setting before you try the 4x setting. Having too much memory may slow Emailchemy down.
- If you have less than 2GB of memory (RAM) in your computer, do not select the 4x setting unless you are really sure your system has at least 512MB of physical memory free.
You can always run change the memory setting back to the lowest setting. But, if that does not work and you are still having trouble running Emailchemy, re-install it.
